Professional C.V.’s
Presenting yourself to a potential employer starts at their very first contact with you. This is often at the point where they see your C.V., so you need this document to be as positive a representation of you as possible!
• The details in the C.V. should be clear and concise;
• In our view, your employment details should work back from the present day;
• The C.V. should be no more than 3 pages;
• Ensure the layout looks professional and check all spelling and grammar. Then check it again without relying on ‘spellcheck’!
• Highlight any points where your skills and experience match those of the job role;
• Remember your C.V. advertises YOU. Make sure your best qualities are included and detail your skills and competencies;
• Include any work achievements and accomplishments, not just tasks and responsibilities. Proof of how other people have valued you can be a good indicator for a prospective employer;
• Your C.V. should be short and to the point but containing all the details required to SELL you;
• Avoid repetition in your C.V. and keep to the point;
• Be prepared to offer proof in an interview of any claims you make in your C.V.;
• Get someone else to proof read your C.V., before sending it out;
• Check the layout when the C.V. is printed out and ensure there are no blank pages or gaps.
• Do not make false claims - honesty is the best policy.
