What do we want?…a starter for 10.

You know what it is like…you are looking for a training course but you just can’t find what you need. Sometimes the courses all have funny titles that might not mean anything to you. With this in mind we want to make the process as easy as possible for you.

Training is sometimes seen as a bit of a sticking plaster. You have probably heard someone at some point in your career say “what we need is training!” and they might just be right! However, quite often the first thing is to be clear about what is it you want to achieve through the training. This applies to training for 1 person just as much as it does when people are thinking about company wide development programmes that will involve 4000 people.

The question we probably ask the most is when embarking on work with our clients is…”what are you wanting to achieve?” and this is a good starting point when looking to source training for yourselves.

So have a look at the following statements and see if they apply to you. They are a collection of things that our clients have said to us over time. We have matched the statements to some possible solutions and benefits. Have a read through and see if anything strikes a cord for you.

“We need people to be able to cope with stress”
This can often relate to time management and assertiveness. We have a course called Personal Success which is about managing Stress, time and how to become more assertive!

“We need people to improve their communication skills”
This could be many things ranging from influencing skills, presentations skills, leadership skills, team building & delegation. We would be more than happy to help you address such issues as these.

“We need managers to lead more effectively”.
This could obviously be a range of management and leadership skills that need developing. It might be good to establish what the differences are between leaders and managers, coaching skills, thinking skills, conflict management, delegation, goal setting, could all be areas for development.

“We are going through lots of change and we need to be able to manage people through it”.
Sounds a lot like change management! How do people react to change? What can managers and leaders do to help people adjust? How can we ensure we communicate in a timely fashion? How can we anticipate the questions people might have? These are all key areas to managing people through change. We can help you address these challenges and train not only managers in how to handle changes but also train staff members in how to deal
with change.

“We need people to stop looking for answers and show more initiative”.
This is an interesting one. This could be about changing the culture. Moving more to an empowering way of working. Tapping into our creative ability to solve problems and taking responsibility could be a great place to start. More and more businesses are all seeking the same customers so training people in creativity could give you a head start over and above the competition. It could make you money, unearth a fantastic new idea, save you money or open up new markets to you!

“We need to look after our customers more effectively”.
Sounds obvious this one…however more can often help than just good old customer service training. Have you considered how the thinking of each and every one of your staff members affects the service you give? What is the quality of the thinking your people do when dealing with customers? How do your customers think and is your thinking and theirs aligned? Understanding the way our thinking affects the results we get with our internal and external customers can help us to put a new slant on customer service!

“We need the skills to coach people”.
We all know that coaching is a wonderful skill. However, many organisations still do not give their managers a good grounding in coaching skills. Coaching can provide so much more than just better performance for the individual. It can help people to find better work life balance, take more responsibility, feel empowered and reach untapped potential. It also is a fantastic way to give people on going development. We run a public scheduled course called “Performance coaching” and we often deign coaching programmes for our clients that we run in house. Often this is part of creating a coaching culture.

“We have some new managers and we want to give them a good grounding in management skills”.
We run a public scheduled course called “Introduction to Management” and as you would expect we design lots of bespoke development programmes for people new into the world of managing others.

“We need to improve our presentation skills.”
One of the things people fear most is public speaking and presenting…some people even fear it more than death! (Which seems a little strange). We understand these fears fully and we love to help people grow their confidence and ability. We run “Presenting with Impact” on our public schedule as well as designing bespoke programmes for our clients in this area.

“We need to develop training skills.”
We believe that our training skills are second to none…so we love to help other people to develop theirs. We run “Train the Trainer” programmes on our public schedule and we often provide coaching to our clients to help them improve what they do.
